I am Diya Mehta. I am an Indian. India is my country. I love my country very much. We celebrate 15th August as an independence day every year. We got independence from the British rule on 15th August 1947.

On 26th January 1950 India became republic. Leaders who contributed and fought to free India from the rule of Britishers are Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bhagat Singh, Mahatama Gandhi, Rani Laxmibai, Jawarahlal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

The capital city of India is New Delhi. The city of Mumbai is known as the business capital of the country. There are 28 states & 7 union territories in India.

The motto of the country is “ Satyamev Jayate”. The national Anthem is “Jana Gana Mana” & the national song is “Vande Mataram”. English and Hindi are the 2 main official languages of the country. The national flag is tri colored having white, green and saffron color.

The 1st Prime minister of India was Pandit Jawarahlal Nehru. At present the Prime Minister of India is Dr. Manmohan Singh. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the 1st President of India. At present the President of India is Pranab Mukherjee. I live in a democratic country where the residents belong to various communities, castes & creed following different cultures & live together under a single roof. India is known for its unity in diversity. It is the only country where its residents have the right to follow his/her own religion.

No other country in the world enjoys such human power. The constitution of the country is laid by its Parliament. The Parliament comprise of the upper house & the lower house which runs the government. Rupee is the currency of India. Taj Mahal which is one of the 7 wonders of the world is also located in India.

India is world’s 7th largest country. The beauty of the country can be experienced beyond imagination. India has a lot of rivers, food habits, culture, lakes geographical locations, beautiful mountains, dressing and deserts because of which India is the hot-spot among tourists situated in various parts of the world throughout the year.

The agricultural sector plays a major role for the livelihood of people. Indian women from rural India are involved extensively in agricultural activities. I love my country and I am proud to be a part of it.

River Ganga is the holiest river in India. Corruption is the inevitable issue in India today which is degrading the country’s progress day by day. I pray to God to help my country and its citizens to tackle and overcome with this issue soon.
