Paragraph on Visit to a Historical Place – by Anand

I had the chance of visiting one of the most famous historical places in the country, the Taj mahal.

The Taj Mahal, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, is the most beautiful thing I have seen in my life.

It stands in grandeur on the banks of the river Yamuna near the city of Agra and is one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture. It is a symbol of love which was erected by emperor Shahjahan in the loving memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. I had an opportunity to visit the Taj Mahal last year with my classmates and teachers.

The Glorious History of Taj Mahal:

The Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan to commemorate Mumtaz Mahal, his beloved wife who died of child birth. The plans for the complex have been attributed to various architects of the period, although the chief architect was probably Ustad Ahmad Lahawri. The commencement of the building started around the year 1632. More than 20,000 workers were employed from India, Europe, Persia, and the Ottoman Empire. Construction of the Taj Mahal spanned 22 years at a cost between four and five million rupees.

Our Tour to the Taj Mahal:

Our visit to the Taj Mahal was organized by our beloved History professor, who organized the tour for the purposes of spot study. More than thirty of us went for the visit. We used the bus for transportation from Delhi to Agra. We started the journey early in the morning and we reached there by 12.30. We put down our luggage in our respective accommodations and proceeded towards the destination. Taj Mahal, the greatest carved piece of marble of the Mughal period was standing in front of us.

Description of the Place:

There was a long queue at the main gate through which we entered. The red tiled passages of the building welcomed us. After the main entrance we walked through the footpaths which led to the Mahal. These footpaths were surrounded by a garden and fountains. The sprinkling water from the fountains was an attraction of the place.

We reached near the Taj Mahal and gasped at the beauty of the monument. It had four minars encircling the main building or the tomb wherein laid the coffins of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. Each of the wall of the building was engraved in pure marble and lustrous stones. Inscriptions were engraved on its walls which were taken from the holy book of the Muslims i.e. the Quran.

Importance of the Taj Mahal:

Taj Mahal has been declared as a world heritage site by the UNESCO. Millions of tourists from all parts of the world come to this place to admire the beauty of the monument. It is also an example of the exquisite skill of the workmen in the Mughal era. The colour changing marble is also a treat for the tourists.

Thus, the visit to the Taj Mahal was a wonderful experience for me. I was astonished at the sheer beauty of the monument and the glorious history behind it. The Taj Mahal is indeed the most beautiful thing I have seen in my life.
